I have been performing short sets of the Récitations since 2010, and am gradually working towards a complete performance. This is no mean feat: there are 14 recitations in all but, since many of them can (and should) be performed in various ways (principally through vertical, horizontal or partial readings), the total permutations are considerably more. I'm aiming to do the whole sweep in 75 minutes.
Here is short video about the Récitations:
In early February 2013 I spent a week on an Aldeburgh Residency, entirely dedicated to developing my interpretation and performance of Récitations. I was joined by dramaturg William Oldroyd for part of my stay, who was charged with 'getting me out of my box' dramatically. It was a thoroughly inspiring, intense, productive and surprising week. Some unexpected results can be found here.
Sincere thanks go to Aldeburgh Music for their support, and I gratefully acknowledge the financial assistance of PRS for Music Foundation and the Hinrichsen Foundation.
